What is Finance & Operations?
Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management make up Microsoft’s ERP for large, complex organisations. They handle general ledger and budgeting, procurement, warehousing, production and transport, including companies with many legal entities, currencies and countries. A brief history
The products descend from Dynamics AX, Microsoft’s long-running enterprise ERP. When AX moved to the cloud it became part of Dynamics 365 and was later organised into separate Finance and Supply Chain Management applications, though many people still call the pair “F&O”.
Who uses Finance & Operations?
Finance teams use it for consolidation, reporting and compliance. Supply chain and manufacturing staff plan production and manage inventory and fulfilment. Functional consultants configure it for each business, and developers extend it using X++ and Power Platform integrations. It is most often found in large enterprises.
Who should learn Finance & Operations?
It rewards people with a grounding in accounting or supply chain processes, whether they are consultants, analysts or developers. Learn the organisation structure, financial dimensions and core transaction flows first. Everything else builds on them.
